what the water gave me:

an introspection into capitalism, burnout, and living as a graphic designer

As part of this personal project, I explored what it means to be a graphic designer within a capitalist society, and the relationship between graphic design and capitalism. As well as the removal of humanist principles that often occurs as a result, and the impact this has on the designer.

To do so, I explored the ways in which designers are currently utilising more analogue means of creating design, such as illustration, hand lettering and risograph printing, with the aim of reinterpreting design through a humanist lens and giving agency back to the artist.

My graphic outcome is a risograph calendar that acts as a physical representation of overwork and burnout as a result of a capitalist culture. This calendar details my journey to reconnect with my own design practice and my future entwined in capitalism and anti-humanist tendencies.
